FAQs
What coatings do most paper cups contain?
Most paper cups are lined with either a polyethylene (PE) plastic film, or plant-based PLA (polylactic acid) or PBS (polybutylene succinate) coatings; all of which come with health and environmental drawbacks.
Why are PE-coated cups bad?
PE-coated disposable paper cups leach over 25,000 microplastics into just 100 ml of a hot beverage within 15 minutes. They also take over 20 years to biodegrade and are not truly recyclable, since very few facilities in the world can separate the plastic film from the paper.
Aren't PLA/BioPBS cups good for you?
They’re better than PE, but still not ideal. They only break down under specialized industrial composting conditions, are not easily recyclable, and their composting process is just as costly, environmentally and financially, as PE-coated disposable cups.
Should I be worried about the performance of RAS Bio Cups?
Not at all. Our biodegradable paper cups withstand temperatures up to 100°C, well above the 71–85°C, at which hot beverages are typically served, and perform on par with conventional PE-coated cups.
How can I find out if my cups are coated with plastic?
Try the Rub Test. Wet the outside of the cup and rub until you see a plastic film peel away from the paper. If a film appears, your disposable paper cup contains plastic. No film indicates no plastic.

We use a water-based aqueous coating that is 100% plastic-free and leaves no film residue. This makes our biodegradable paper cups truly repulpable and recyclable without industrial separation. They are ISO 17088 compostable and US FDA certified.

Most beverages are consumed within 45 minutes, but we’ve leak-tested our disposable paper cups for a full 24 hours.

Yes, RAS Bio Cups are microwave safe with no need to transfer your beverage to another container before reheating.
Is the custom printing ink food-safe?
Yes, absolutely. We use low-migration, food-grade inks for all custom printing, so your cup is as safe as it is stylish.
How long does delivery take after placing an order?
Plain cups are dispatched within 5–10 days. For custom-printed cups, it may take 20 days for your first order and 10 days for all repeat orders.
